Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Referral Guide
Canora Medical & Hyperbaric Clinic
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a proven primary or adjunctive treatment that significantly increases the oxygen-carrying capacity of blood to improve supply to damaged tissues. All treatments at our clinic are managed by certified family doctors and specialized respiratory therapists.
Approved Indications for Treatment
Please consider a referral for patients presenting with the following conditions:
- Chronic Wound Care: Diabetic foot ulcers or chronic skin and soft tissue wounds.
- Radiation-Related Injuries: Delayed radiation tissue injury or radiation burns.
- Infections: Chronic refractory osteomyelitis, intracranial abscess, or necrotizing soft tissue infections (Gas Gangrene).
- Surgical Support: Prevention or preparation of compromised skin grafts and flaps.
- Acute Ischemias: Crush injuries, compartment syndrome, or acute traumatic ischemias.
- Sudden Sensory Loss: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
- Emergency/Acute Cases: Air/gas embolism, carbon monoxide poisoning, or decompression sickness.

Clinical Considerations for Referrers
- Treatment Protocol: Most chronic conditions require daily sessions (Monday–Friday) lasting 60 to 150 minutes.
- Typical Duration: Wound healing often requires a cumulative effect, typically involving up to 40 treatments.
- Patient Safety: We perform a full risk assessment for all dressings, medications, and implanted devices (e.g., pacemakers/insulin pumps).
- Incompatible Factors: Please note that active smoking and certain medications may be incompatible with HBO therapy; we will review the patient’s full medication history during intake.
